AIR FRYER FRIED PICKLES! I’m not even kidding here.

You make them exactly the same way as you would if you were frying pickles, and then like it’s NBD you toss a handful in the air fryer spray them with cooking spray and in 15 minutes you have crispy, crunchy, fried pickles that taste just like Texas Roadhouse, ready to eat!

I won’t even tell you how many times I made this recipe all in the name of ‘recipe testing.’ Let’s just say, I fully enjoyed testing out this recipe and may have gone overboard with it too. And I’ll tell you what, my husband, the guy who doesn’t even like pickles, ate most of them. Fried pickles have converted my once pickle-disliking hubby. I kinda wish he hadn’t loved them so much, there would be more for me! I kid; this recipe technically makes enough for 4-5 people, so plenty to go around!

I love serving fried pickle chips with my house remoulade sauce. It’s spicy, tangy, and so creamy! And I’m hoping you’ll love these as much as we did!

Ingredients for Air Fryer Fried Pickles:

  • Dill Pickles: I buy sliced dill pickles from Costco but you can also just buy whole pickles and slice them up yourself. Other types of pickles will also work here, the flavor of the dill pickles does work best with the cajun spices and buttermilk ranch though!
  • Flour: You’ll need regular old all-purpose flour here to coat the fried pickles.
  • Seasonings: I use two types of seasonings here. The first is a cajun seasoning (or creole seasoning, whatever you have/like.) The other is my favorite kitchen spice — garlic powder. Keep in mind that if you use low sodium cajun seasoning, you might want to add a small pinch of salt in with the dry ingredients. If you use regular creole/cajun seasoning, you won’t need any salt at all.
  • Eggs: two lightly beaten large eggs are used as the wet portion of the coating. We’ll dip the eggs in the flour, dust it off, and then dip in the egg mixture. It’s crucial to dust off as much flour as you can before dipping in the eggs otherwise the eggs start to get thicker and thicker as you continue the dredging process.
  • Cooking Spray: Since we’re airfrying you can either drizzle oil or spray cooking spray on the fried pickle chips before cooking them. Be sure to spray/ drizzle both sides

How to Make Air Fryer Fried Pickles:

  1. Dip in the dry, the wet, and then the dry again. You want to start by placing the pickle slices in a sieve to allow all the excess juice to drain. Then, in a shallow baking dish, combine the flour, cajun seasoning and garlic powder. We don’t use salt here because the cajun seasoning is usually plenty salty. Then we’ll add the beaten eggs to another bowl. Dip the pickle chips in the flour mixture. Make sure to shake off the excess flour so that you don’t get too much in the eggs. Dip the chip in the egg mixture, and then finally in the flour mixture again. Place the chips on a baking sheet and repeat this process until all the pickle chips are used up.
  2. Air Fry until golden. Preheat the air fryer and spray a small batch of the pickle chips with the cooking spray. Place the spray side up and cook them for 6-7 minutes or until golden, flip them over, spray again and then continue to cook for another 6-7 minutes. When the chips are done, remove them to a plate and serve with buttermilk ranch!

FAQs about Air Fryer Fried Pickles:

Can I double the batch to make more?

Yes, the recipe can easily be doubled.

Can I fry these pickle chips instead?

Yes, you can fry the pickles instead of using the air fryer. I suggest frying them at 350ºF for roughly 6-10 minutes or until golden and crispy! Drain on a paper towel to soak up the excess oil.

Is there any other sauce you suggest to use for dipping?

Yes! I most often serve them with my house remoulade recipe! It’s ½ cup mayo + 1 chopped scallion + 1 teaspoon grated garlic + 1 teaspoon cajun seasoning + 1 tablespoon hot sauce + 1 tablespoon lemon juice + 1-2 teaspoons horseradish (optional.) Just stir it all in a bowl and that’s it!

Ingredients

  • 40-50 dill pickles slices
  • 1 ½ cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • Oil or cooking spray

Instructions

    1. COMBINE: Fish out the pickles from the jar and let them sit in a sieve to drip off excess moisture (but don’t pat them dry, we want all that flavor intact!) Whisk the flour, cajun seasoning, and garlic powder in one bowl. Dip each individual chip in the flour mixture, shake off excess flour, then dip in the beaten egg, and dip again in the flour mixture. Place coated pickle slices on a baking sheet (or plate) and repeat until all the chips are coated.
    2. AIR FRYER: Preheat the air fryer at 375ºF. Add 12-15 pickle slices at a time and spray with cooking spray. Cook for 14-16 minutes total. Flip them over halfway, spray the second side, and continue to cook until golden. Serve warm with buttermilk ranch dressing or my house remoulade sauce (recipe in notes below.)

Notes

    • House Remoulade: ½ cup mayo + 1 chopped scallion + 1 teaspoon grated garlic + 1 teaspoon cajun seasoning + 1 tablespoon hot sauce + 1 tablespoon lemon juice + 1-2 teaspoons horseradish (optional.) Stir in a bowl and serve!

Hi Nadia! I haven’t tried it myself, so I’m not 100% sure, but I do think it could work. My suggestion would be to test with a smaller batch first so that in the case that it doesn’t work, you don’t end wasting too many ingredients. Hope that helps!
