Air Fryer Hamburgers must be one of the best things ever to cook in the Air Fryer.

For me the best thing about the air fryer is being able to take classic fast food and cook it in the air fryer to make it much lower in calories, yet without losing the great taste.

When I think fast food the first thing that comes to mind is Burger and Chips which is what us Brits call Hamburgers & French Fries.

Dominic and I used to love our takeaways when we lived in the UK many, many years ago.

Dominic would have a double cheese burger and single chicken burger with fries and I would have a garlic bread with cheese, fries and onion rings.

We would eat them while Kyle was fast asleep in bed and have them while watching nightly TV. We both worked and neither of us could be bothered to cook dinner.

Hence why at 7pm on a night the takeaway number would be dialled. This probably occurred 3-4 times a week and I am sure from this you can understand why I was obese.

But the good thing about living where we do in Portugal, is that there is no takeaway delivery services and the local burger takeout place is a 25-minute round trip.

In which time you have the air fryer on and hamburgers cooked.

I just WISH that air fryers had been invented back then as they would have saved me from an era of saturated fat and more calories than I care to admit to.

Air Fryer Hamburgers Top Questions Answered

#1 How Long Do You Cook A Hamburger In The Air Fryer?

This depends on the size of your hamburger patty, as small ones will cook much quicker than big ones. The quality of your air fryer also makes a big difference.

For example, we were early users of the Philips Air Fryer and their original model was very slow. This meant that in our original air fryer burgers recipe you were talking 40 minutes to cook them.

So, to recap think of it as the size of the burger or in oven terms whether you have a fan assisted oven or not.

#2 Are Air Fryer Hamburgers Good For You?

YES, they are. Unlike the chemicals you get at fast food places or the fact that you don’t add any fat or oil to be able to cook homemade air fryer hamburgers.

Its literally the hamburger meat, seasoning and then cooked in the air fryer. You can also use a leaner cut of mince to make them even healthier for you.

Just check out the ingredients in our recipe below:

#3 How To Make Hamburger Patties?

To make hamburger patties for the air fryer you literally throw all your hamburger ingredients into a mixing bowl and mix well.

Make them into hamburger shapes and then fridge them for an hour. You can of course use a good burger press to make them look cute like the restaurants, or just use your hands and create delicious big hamburgers.

#4 What Size Are Your Air Fryer Hamburgers?

Recipe This | Air Fryer Hamburgers (4)

I often get asked why my hamburgers for the air fryer are so small or is there an error in the size on the ingredients list.

There is no typo to make hamburgers 160g of mince is a good size for each person.

I like to compare it to McDonalds and their single cheeseburgers or their single hamburgers. Their cheeseburgers weigh 111g and their hamburgers 92g.

This is the heavy frozen weight and includes all the garnish, the bread bun and the hamburger patty.

Compare this to us and the fact that your patty alone weighs in at 160g without the bread and cheese.

#5 Can You Batch Freeze Your Hamburgers

Recipe This | Air Fryer Hamburgers (5)

Absolutely! But only if you are using fresh mince to make your burgers with. What we do is batch freeze mince and then make them into burgers when defrosted.

But you can instead make them into burgers as you freeze them instead.

#6 Can You Cook Air Fryer Hamburgers & French Fries Together?

Recipe This | Air Fryer Hamburgers (6)

Yes you can. The hamburgers don’t need turning during the cooking process, but the French Fries do. So, for best results have the burgers to one side and then the fries to the other. It then makes it easier to turn the fries.

Notes

You can double up the portion sizes if you are feeding a family of four. These burgers can also be served at your summer barbecue if you wish or make them when you are camping. I buy mixed beef and pork mince. It works perfectly because it gives you a delicious mix of flavours and is not dry like it can be when you use 100% minced beef.

Because we are using mixed mince you don’t need breadcrumbs to make them into hamburger patties. We cooked our whole wheat dinner rolls first in the air fryer and then allowed them to cool while our hamburgers and French fries were cooking in the air fryer. If you avoid the whole wheat bread rolls it can be low carb and Slimming World friendly.
