Why is my Honda Civic clicking but not starting? ›

If your vehicle won't start but you hear a rapid clicking sound when you turn the key then you may have a problem with your battery or alternator.

The number one reason your Honda won't start is likely the battery. There are many issues that can cause a battery to die, such as corrosion around the connections, bad wiring, or simply age. If a jump-start won't fix this issue, it may be time to get your battery replaced.

In the under-dash fuse box you can find the PGM-FI-mainrelay 1& 2 and also the ETCS control relay.

The base package provides you with the ability to remote start by pressing lock 3 times on your existing factory remote, eliminating any need to carry an additional remote. The range from where you can remote start is the distance where you can lock your vehicle from.

This clicking noise is usually caused by one of five things: a dead battery, loose wiring, faulty starter motor, faulty ignition switch or corroded battery terminals.

If you don't hear anything at all, it could be a problem with the ignition switch and fuse, the starter solenoid, or bad electrical systems in your car, to name a few. If you can hear a clicking noise, you may have a partially discharged battery or a damaged starter motor.

A blown fuse in the starter circuit could be the cause of a no-start problem. Broken or corroded wiring – Damaged or dirty wires to the battery or to the starter solenoid (or wires that are loose) can prevent sufficient power from reaching the starter.

If the car cranks when you turn the key, but the engine won't start, it could be because fuel isn't getting to the engine. One potential reason for this could be dirty fuel injectors. Over time, the fuel injector nozzles can become clogged with rust, corrosion or debris.

The starter motor is typically hardwired to the battery via the starter solenoid due to the very high current draw required for operation. The solenoid will have a fuse though. You will have to check the location in the fuse box (typically mapped on the lid/cover).

The starting relay is a small electrical device located in the starting circuit of a large current motor. The relay is just a remote control switch that regulates the current in a high-current circuit. The starter relay in the car uses a moderate ignition switch current to close the much more powerful starter circuit.

How do I know if my starter relay or solenoid is bad? ›

One of the first and most common symptoms is simply no response from the starter when you turn the key – no noises or engine cranking at all. Sometimes, repeatedly trying the ignition can produce a result, but that's not guaranteed. It usually means there's a faulty connection in the solenoid.

The remote start feature works within around 100 feet of your vehicle if there are no obstructions. Press the lock button on your remote. Then press and hold the remote start button. Your Honda Civic will flash its lights to notify you when it has started.

Faulty Starter
